to Mark & John they completed their cycle ride to Santiago at lunch time on Tuesday the 28th. No details yet but watch this space for more photos and details of their journey.

We received this from Mark and John early on Thursday the 23rd of June, it therefore relates to the day before.

"We have now reached Leon and just come back to our room after seeing the impressive cathedral.

Tomorrow it’s on the (improved...) bikes to Astorga.

Rain showers this evening for the first time. Thankfully MUCH cooler now.
We have just passed a milestone - halfway there now"

 Camino Sponsored Cycle Ride Latest

Mark Ibison & his brother John have now set off on their sponsored ride to Santiago De Compostela.  We will keep up to date with their progress here.

This is their starting point, St Jean Pied de Port, in the French Pyrenees

The top of the Pass on the first day, at 1430 metres (4691 ft) ie higher than anything in Britain!

Mark says: "It’s our 4th day and proving a challenge to say the least! Resting up in Logrono tonight after a real struggle the first 3 days - heat and hills, then more heat and hills...

Today has been a recovery day... Further progress depends on the weather cooling but we’ll make Santiago one way or another!"

(NB according to BBC news this morning the current extreme heat wave is the hottest ever recordeed in France and Spain this early in the year)
